With season 2018-19 nearing its conclusion, the footballing fraternity will now feast their eyes on the daily transfer activities of their beloved clubs.
A transfer season holds paramount importance for any football club since it is probably the best way to improve the weaknesses of a squad. In case of the fans, the daily active rumour mill serves as a source of entertainment, maintaining excitement and curiosity regarding new arrivals at their beloved clubs.
A number of high-profile stars will be up for grabs this summer, with the rumour mill churning out a bucketload of reports regarding various deals. A mega-signing is something that gets the fans exhilarated and is also a highlight of the transfer window for the year in question.
That being said, let’s have a look at these five players who could prove to be blockbuster signings in this transfer season.
#5 Paulo Dybala (Juventus)
Juventus star Paulo Dybala is one of the many players rumoured to be on the move this summer. Lately, the Argentine’s brother Gustavo Dybala has given a clear confirmation that the 25-year-old intends to quit the Serie A giants in search of a new challenge.
The presence of Cristiano Ronaldo is also being listed as one of the crucial factors behind Dybala’s wish to switch clubs. Since the arrival of the giant Portuguese talisman, he has seen his game time being restricted, not to mention that his goalscoring exploits have also plummeted alarmingly.
The Argentinian was the talisman for the Old Lady in season 2017/18, rattling the net 22 times and assisting 5 goals. However, with Ronaldo in the starting XI, he has managed just 5 goals and 4 assists in 28 games for the Bianconeri this campaign.
Unless he wants to endure a plight similar to that of Karim Benzema at Real Madrid, Dybala will surely consider quitting the club this summer. The Juve no.10 has no shortage of suitors as well, with heavyweights Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain interested in acquiring his services.
Dybala is currently valued at £90m(€102m) according to transfermarkt.com
#4 Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid)
After about a year of speculation and rumours linking him with an exit. Antoine Griezmann finally looks set to quit Atletico Madrid. The French forward is one of the most lethal goalscorers in LaLiga and the Rojiblancos won’t find it a cakewalk when it comes to replacing him.
According to various sources, Griezmann is said to have already agreed a move to Spanish champions FC Barcelona, who also chased him vehemently last summer. The 28-year-old is likely to replace Uruguayan poacher Luis Suarez, who has looked off-colour for quite a few months now.
The good news for Ernesto Valverde is that Paris Saint Germain and Manchester City have pulled out of the race to sign the striker, which means the Blaugrana will have a clear road to acquiring his services. Griezmann’s value will plummet from £200m to £120m on July 1 and the Catalans are expected to splash the cash in the same period.
#3 Paul Pogba (Manchester United)
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be busy in revamping the entire Manchester United squad this summer. Apparently, Paul Pogba is one of the first names being rumoured to embrace the exit doors at Old Trafford.
The Frenchman’s future is under a cloud of uncertainty and should he decide to leave, United certainly won’t let him go away without securing a handsome amount in return.
Pogba has been under intense scrutiny following his intermittent form ever since he joined United from Juventus in 2016. To add fuel to fire, the 26-year-old’s recent altercation with the fans following United’s 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford has done little to improve the situation.
Zinedine Zidane is said to be a big fan of the World Cup winner and wants to see him Real Madrid’s famous white shirt when the next season starts. Barcelona also remains a possible destination for the midfielder.
According to reports, the Red Devils will likely demand €130m for their superstar.
#2 David De Gea (Manchester United)
Manchester United are set to undergo a major overhaul in the summer, with a number of players expected to embrace the exit door at Old Trafford. Unfortunately, David De Gea is also being touted as one of them.
The Spaniard has been a mainstay between the sticks for the Red Devils since 2011. He churned out below-par performances for the club. However, in spite of his poor performances, United are still adamant on letting their superstar leave.
De Gea is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal at Old Trafford, having entered the final year of his current contract. Reports suggest that the Spanish shot-stopper could finally quit United in search of a club that will enable him to win more silverware. As a matter of fact, the Red Devils are said to have short-listed Jasper Cillesen as his replacement.
Manchester United will pull out all the stops to keep hold of their star goalkeeper, but if they fail to do so, they will definitely demand a handsome price in return for De Gea.
#1 Eden Hazard (Chelsea)
Well, we don’t need a formal briefing as to which club Eden Hazard will join, do we?
The Belgian will probably play his last game for Chelsea against Arsenal in the Europa League final, looking forward to closing his chapter in England with a joyous memory.
According to a few reports, Hazard is said to have conveyed his final decision to Chelsea and it remains to be seen if the Blues manage to keep hold of their talisman. Some reports also suggested that the 28-year-old will be announced as a Real Madrid player on May 29, fuelling further speculation regarding his future in England. Zinedine Zidane is also said to be a fervent admirer of the Belgian.
Los Blancos are also rumoured to have agreed a €100m fee with Chelsea for Hazard. It remains to be seen if the rumours hold any veracity when the transfer window flings open.
