ARSENAL fans will no doubt despair at Unai Emery’s transfer plan for Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha.
Arsenal have been linked with a move to Zaha, who has reportedly told Crystal Palace he wants to leave at the end of the season.
The Ivory Coast international has established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League in recent years and is now keen to chance his arm elsewhere.
Arsenal are not alone in their interest of Zaha, however, with former club Manchester United also in the mix.
Chelsea, too, have been tipped to move for the 26-year-old when the transfer window reopens this summer.
Yet The Sun say Arsenal are only willing to pay £40million for the forward, with Palace holding out for £80m.
The Gunners’ transfer kitty could yet receive a boost if they win the Europa League to secure Champions League football.
However, The Sun claim Emery is set to bide his time until later in the window – which is something that will no doubt annoy Gunners fans.
Arsenal, it is patently obvious, require more if they are to close the gap on the Premier League elite.
But, in stalling on Zaha, they risk seeing their top transfer target head elsewhere.
The 26-year-old is reportedly eager to play for a Champions League team.
However, earlier this week, it was suggested that he is open to returning to United.
Zaha has previously described his stint at Old Trafford as ‘hell’, saying in September: “I went through so much with United, with England.
“There were rumours that the reason I wasn’t playing for United was because I slept with David Moyes’s daughter, and no one attempted to clear that up.
“So I was fighting my demons by myself, these rumours that I knew weren’t true.
“I was dealing with this at 19; living in Manchester by myself, nowhere near anyone else, because the club had a hold over where I lived.
“They hadn’t given me a car, like every other player. Nothing. I’m living in this hell by myself, away from my family, and I thought: ‘If this doesn’t make me stronger, what will?’”
Whether Arsenal’s decision to stall on Zaha comes back to bite them remains to be seen.
