CHELSEA are considering Ajax forward David Neres after missing out on Luka Jovic.
The Blues had been closely tailing Eintracht Frankfurt hitman Jovic, who has scored 27 goals in 47 appearances this season.
But the 21-year-old Serbia striker is set to join Real Madrid.
Chelsea are pushing ahead with their recruitment plans because they are hopeful of having their two-window FIFA transfer ban frozen by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
According to the Press Association, Stamford Bridge bosses favour a move for Brazil star Neres now that Jovic appears out of reach.
Paris St Germain, Liverpool and Arsenal are also eyeing a move for £40m-rated Neres.
The 22-year-old has impressed amid Ajax’s run to the Champions League semi-finals and the domestic double.
He hit 10 times in 42 matches in Ajax’s fine campaign, including a goal in the stunning win against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.
Chelsea enjoy a positive relationship with Neres’ agents Giuliano Bertolucci and Kia Joorabchian, with the pair representing Blues defender David Luiz.

A new striker is high on the agenda at Stamford Bridge heading into the summer transfer window.
Gonzalo Higuain is likely to return to parent club Juventus after failing to impress on loan.
Chelsea are, however, expected to trigger the one-year extension in Olivier Giroud’s contract to keep him in west London next season.
Christian Pulisic will join the Blues this summer, with the USA star expected to replace Real Madrid-bound Eden Hazard.
One forward not keen to return is Atletico Madrid loanee Alvaro Morata.
“What is clear is what I want, I want to be here,” Morata told MARCA.
“I’m going to do all I can to keep playing here, I did all I could to come and I will do all I can to stay.
“I’m not thinking about going back anywhere, only being here.
“I’m happy here and I want to be here for the years I have left at the top level.”
