The deal was due to be completed this week but United will give James and his family time to deal with their loss

Daniel James’ father has tragically passed away days before the £15m Swansea winger was due to complete a dream move to Manchester United.

United will give James’ family time and space to deal with the bereavement after his dad died suddenly aged 60.

James’ father had been ill but the family did not expect him to pass away so suddenly.

The deal with United was due to have been completed this week, but the club will now give the Swansea ace and his family as much time as they need.

James attracted United’s attention after the 21-year-old scored five goals and made 10 assists in 38 games for Swansea this season.

Daniel James has impressed for Swansea and Wales this season

He impressed against Manchester City in the FA Cup as the Swans gave the eventual winners a scare, and also performed well for Wales after breaking into Ryan Giggs’ squad, scoring his first international goal in their 1-0 Euro 2020 qualifying win over Slovakia.

While James’ signing will be understandably delayed, an agreement is now in place between United and Swansea, according to the Daily Mail .

United have earmarked James as the solution to their issues on the right wing , having made specific enquiries to Swansea about his ability to play that role, the Mail says.

However, he can play on either flank or through the middle.

James owed his Welsh roots to his dad, he was born in Aberdare. His dad watched his son’s Wales debut on television – in a 1-0 defeat to Albania last November.

James almost joined Leeds in January on deadline day only for the deal to collapse. Since then he has shot to prominence and has been racked by several Premier League clubs.

He will be aiming to fire Wales to victory in their forthcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers away to Croatia on June 8 and in Hungary three days later.
