The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have turned down a proposal from several Egyptian Premier League sides to cancel relegation for season 2018/2019, assuring there is no intention to change the rules.
It has been reported that eight clubs from the Egyptian Premier League, featuring Smouha, have signed a memorandum to request the abolition of relegation this season, citing the lack of consistent matchdays and poor officiating among their reasons for their call.
However, the EFA stated that they did not even take this possibility into consideration since it’s a matter related to the league regulations that were put forward.
“EFA is sticking to the solid principal of finishing the Premier League competition on the same regulations which it started with. The association did not consider and did not discuss anything that breaches the regulations related to the competition,” EFA stated on Facebook.
The Egyptian football’s governing body affirmed that these rules were agreed by mutual consent with the 18 clubs participating in the league.
