East London – Beacon Bay Detectives, in East London, acted swiftly on intelligence-driven information on Tuesday and arrested five armed robbery suspects.
“They followed information at a Bed and Breakfast in Beacon Bay, East London, that led them to the arrest of five male suspects, between the ages of 22 and 27 years,” said police spokesperson, Captain Hazel Mqala.
“A .45 acp firearm with a filed-off serial number, four live ammunition with a magazine, expensive liquor and cigarettes to the estimated amount of R6 000, false or defaced identity documents, bank cards, petrol cards, undisclosed amount of money and eight cell phones were found in their possession.”
She added that two vehicles that were allegedly used to commit crime were also confiscated and booked at camp 13 for further investigation.
“The other property found is linked to a business robbery that took place on Monday at a tarven in Umtata.”
She added that a case of possession of suspected stolen property, possession of unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition and fraud has been opened against the five suspects.
They are expected to appear in the East London Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
