De Jong has enjoyed a near-fairytale season at Ajax this year.

The Dutchman, who has been with the club since 2015, won the Eredivisie and the KNVB Cup this season.

But after beating Juventus and Real Madrid, their Champions League dreams were shattered by Tottenham at the semi-final stage.

After such a ground-breaking season, the Ajax squad is set to be raided by several European giants this summer.

“I’m dying to see Messi during training”

And the first man to make his way out of the exit door will be De Jong.

The Holland international has already agreed to join Barcelona for £65m this summer after striking a deal back in January.

The leap up to La Liga is expected to be a tough one for the 22-year-old, who has only spent two full seasons in the Dutch top flight.

But De Jong maintains that he intends to play in the same way that caught the eye of many this season.

He also admits he is “dying” to train with Argentine superstar Messi next year.

“I’m dying to see Messi during training, I think I’m just going to pass the ball to him,” he joked.

“I’m not going to change the way I am, I do not care if I’m going to be the centre of attention in Barcelona.

“I’m curious to know how I’m going to adapt there and I’m eager to learn from the best people around me.”

De Jong is expected to be joined at the Nou Camp by close friend and team-mate Matthijs de Ligt.

The 19-year-old has arguably been Ajax’s biggest success story, captaining them to several impressive feats this year at such a young age.

The Holland defender would likely set them back at least another £75m though, complicating Financial Fair Play matters.
