Man in court for attempting to abduct Grand Khadi’s son in Yobe

Police in Damaturu have arraigned one Mohammed Usman Abba, 27,  before a Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly attempting to abduct the three-year-old son of Yobe Grand Khadi, Shuaibu Talba.

Police Prosecutor, Sgt Hayatu Musa, told the court that the accused, who resides at Nayi-nawa ward Damaturu,  committed the offence on February 1, 2019.

He said on February 2, 2019, one Bulama Alkali of 3-Bedroom, Gashua Road, Damaturu, reported the matter to ‘A’ Division police station Damaturu, that the  accused conspired  with one Ali Modu, who is currently serving a jail term in Potiskum prison to abduct the Grand Khadi’s son.

He said when the attempt failed the accused fled to Maiduguri before he was later arrested by the police.

Musa said the accused had committed offences contrary to sections 97 and 95 of the panel code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The presiding Magistrate, Hadiza Lawan Musa, adjourned the case to May 21, 2019 for continuation of hearing and remanded the accused in Potiskum prison.
