BARCELONA could announce the signing of Antoine Griezmann as early as Monday, claims Sky Sports News reporter David Reed.
Griezmann declared in May that he was leaving Atletico Madrid this summer.
The France international’s release clause at Atletico drops to €120m (£107m) at the start of July.
Barcelona are heavy favourites to sign Griezmann but the future of Neymar at Paris Saint-Germain has added doubt to a potential deal.
Neymar is said to want a return to Barca and PSG are keen on offloading the £200m star.
It would be unlikely that Barca would be able to sign both Griezmann and Neymar.
But when discussing the future of Philippe Coutinho, Reed claimed Griezmann is to be announced as a Barcelona player next week.
“I think it has almost been the price that has done for Coutinho at Barcelona,” Reed said on the Transfer Talk podcast.
“The Barcelona fans simply don’t feel that he’s delivered on that price tag and has been worth that money.
“And it shows really that Barcelona are chasing really hard Antoine Griezmann.
“That will probably go through on or around July 1.
“It proves really that Coutinho hasn’t worked out and if and when this Griezmann deal does go through, I think there’s only one way for Coutinho to go and that’s through the exit door.”
Despite this claim, Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu claims there has been no contact with Griezmann.
“We’ve always said it, we’ve never spoken to him, there’s nothing,” Bartomeu said.
“We’re already seeing how the market is growing these days and weeks.
“We have all of June, July and August. We’re talking and planning a strategy, also keeping Barca B in mind, as there are certain players who could be promoted to the first team.
“There will be some new arrivals and some departures.”
