Scott County father catches alleged predator by posing as kid on Facebook, officials say

Scott County officials are crediting an “alert parent” for capturing an alleged child predator.Police said a parent was checking his child’s Facebook account when he noticed an adult was making contact with his 13-year-old child.The parent then pretended to be the child, and the alleged predator traveled to the family’s home in Scott County from Jeffersonville, police said.When the suspect identified as Brandon Ruff, 29, arrived, police said the father held him at their home until officers arrived.Police said Ruff has tried to meet the child several times before. He also created a Facebook account under the name Sammy Castro, police said.He is being charged with false informing, child solicitation and child molest with a child under 14 years old using a computer and traveling to the child.Investigators are urging parents to check their children’s Facebook account for any contact with Ruff and to report any information to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office at 812-752-8400 or 812-752-5550.
